Position description

The Department of Earth Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary Lecturers (part-time appointments) to teach courses in Earth Science in the following areas: Earth Systems, Biogeology, Geochemistry, Geology, Geophysics and Paleobiology. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

The department strongly encourages applicants to submit an optional Statement of Contribution to Diversity. If submitted, these statements will be evaluated for past outreach activities to diverse groups and activities that contribute to diversity.

Appointments will be made on a quarter-to-quarter basis. Reappointment for subsequent quarters is dependent on performance and departmental needs.. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Must have M.S., in Earth Science and have an emphasis in one or more areas; Area of Specialization: Earth Systems, Biogeology, Geochemistry, Geology, Geophysics & Paleobiology. Must have a minimum of one-year of teaching experience.

Applicants must also have at least one year of teaching experience and have an emphasis in one or more of the substantive areas above.

Preferred qualifications

PhD in Earth Science or related field.
