The California NanoSystems at the University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking a postdoctoral candidate with expertise in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics. This position is supported by the Department of Energy Quantum Science Center (QSC, https://qscience.org/), a National Quantum Information Science Research Center. The candidate will closely collaborate with other Center researchers, as well as Dr. Roman Lutchyn and Dr. Chetan Nayak (Microsoft Station Q). Postdoctoral research associates appointed to the Quantum Science Center will engage with a network of universities, national laboratories, and industry to overcome key roadblocks in quantum state resilience, controllability, and, ultimately, the scalability of quantum technologies to realize quantum future.

Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time training programs of advanced academic preparation and research training under the mentorship of a faculty member.

The position has an anticipated duration of two years with a possibility of an extension to the third year if mutually agreed.

Anticipated start date is January 2021.

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent) except the dissertation in condensed matter theoretical physics or closely related field at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
PhD is required by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong research background in topological phases of matter (in particular, topological insulators and superconductors), mesoscopic physics and quantum computation.
Experience with high-performance computing.
